You are Gus… sometimes. Most of the time you are a subconscious chaotic obsession swimming in Gus’s head. And every so often you overpower the other thoughts to become Gus to enact your will. Why does Gus have these thoughts? Is it just because he is a Goblin, or are there nameless chaotic entities that came through the portal and are using Gus as their champion to achieve their chaotic goals? You don’t know. Everyone can talk at any given time but only the active player decides what happens next.
