The simplest and purist of sports is returning to Chicago…. With Nathan’s Annual Hot Dog Eating Contest just days away, we sit down with professional eater Patrick “Deep Dish” Bertoletti to discuss defending his title and the return of Joey Chestnut.

Patrick lets us know how to get over the mental edge that comes with training to beat his previous record of 58 hot dogs from last year. He tells us how the heat during showtime can affect how many glizzys go down. He also lets us know the most unique thing that he’s eaten…. and regretted. Patrick shares what he’s learned about himself through eating contests and how setting goals can lead to great things like discovering new recipes.

There’s a “No Swimwear!” clause in the Nathan’s contest rule book because of Patrick, so we took time to explore loopholes…. Some tearaway pants are going to be needed for this one.

Patrick’s “Deep Dish” Recipes

Seasoned Chips

  • Lawry’s season
  • white sugar
  • MSG

mix salts and msg together, sprinkle on your favorite chips and enjoy.

Patrick’s Chili Crunch Hotdogs

  • Fry the glizzy in mild chili crunch
  • fry the buns in the same mix
  • Apply Kewpie mayonnaise
  • Add some green onions for color

As the show winds down, we ask how long it takes for the body to recover following a hot dog eating contest and what’s the first thing Patrick plans to eat after an eating contest? Tune in!
