About this listen

Good evening. Oregon. I'm Michael Nally. That gray sky overhead? It's just the opening act. We're sitting at 58 degrees across the Willamette Valley right now—about 23 degrees warmer than usual for early March. But don't get too comfortable. A weak front slides in tomorrow, setting the stage for Monday's main event: a crash in snow levels all the way down to 1,000 feet. Rain returns tonight, becoming steady by 6 P.M. In Portland. Down in the Southern Valley, showers arrive earlier, closer to 1 P.M. Today's pleasant warmth near 57 takes a hard tumble into the 30s by Sunday night. That sets up a wild swing for Monday—rain showers in the valleys, but snow mixing in after dark. If you're heading east over the passes, chain up early. The Cascades are about to get hammered, with 8 to 14 inches piling up by Tuesday. Central Oregon gets the best deal today. Bend hits 59 degrees under mostly sunny skies. But even there, the chill returns Monday with overnight lows near 23. Looking ahead. Sunday brings widespread rain and falling temperatures. Monday and Tuesday feature that dramatic drop—snow levels near 1,500 feet mean the mountains get pounded while the valleys see flurries. We rebound slightly by midweek, but another round of rain and mountain snow moves in before we dry out by Friday. Spring is technically two weeks away, but winter is demanding an encore. Grab that umbrella today. And keep the shovel within reach. See you tomorrow.
