About this listen
This week on Roots, Rights & Reason, host Lee Smith sits down with bestselling author and investigative researcher Matt Palumbo to expose how power has shifted from the people to a small class of elites who shape politics, media, and global policy- an American oligarchy.
Drawing from his latest book, The Heir: Inside the Not-So-Secret Network of Alex Soros, Palumbo reveals how billionaire financier George Soros and his son Alex built a worldwide network of influence that reaches deep into government, justice, and culture.
“Anyone with outsized influence and connections…the ability to turn things in their favor with ease fits the description of an oligarch,” Palumbo explains. “And George Soros, along with his son Alex, embodies that definition.”
In this eye-opening conversation, Palumbo traces the Soros network from the post-Soviet privatization of Russia to the global expansion of the Open Society Foundation, where he says “Alex starts on third base when it comes to the impact he’s going to have.”
As Palumbo warns, the danger lies not just in wealth or politics, but in how unelected elites can “control the narrative and silence critics.”
