About this listen

Good evening. Northern California. I'm Aaron Jolly. Here comes the "inside slider." That's a low-pressure system sliding down the backside of the Sierra Nevada. And it's setting the stage for a serious warm-up. This pattern drives classic offshore winds, pushing that dry air right over the mountains into our neighborhoods. The big headline today is the wind. A High Wind Warning is in effect for the San Gabriel Mountains and the Highway 42 degrees Corridor starting at 2 A.M. Friday and lasting until 3 P.M. Saturday. We're talking about northeast winds hitting 30 to 40 miles an hour, with gusts up to 65. A High Wind Watch is also up for the San Bernardino County Mountains and the Inland Empire from late Friday night through Saturday afternoon. If you live in these zones, secure those loose patio chairs now and prepare for possible power outages. This wind will find every gap in your insulation. Down in the Bay Area. Here comes a sunny and breezy afternoon. Highs reach the mid-60s. Northwest winds will gust 25 to 35 miles an hour, with even stronger blasts along the coastal peaks. Tonight stays clear with lows in the low 50s. The Central Valley sees similar sunshine. Highs top out near 66 degrees. North-northwest winds will be gusty, around 20 miles an hour. Keep an eye out for patchy fog along the Highway 79 degrees corridor early Friday morning. Looking ahead, the warming trend takes over. Saturday brings highs near 78 degrees in the Valley and the Bay Area. Sunday is the pick of the week, with upper 70s to near 80 degrees inland. We stay well above normal through next Wednesday — dry, sunny. And beautiful. Charge your phones before those winds hit Friday night. See you tomorrow.
