About this listen

Good morning. North Carolina. I'm Aaron Jolly. If you stepped outside this morning, you might've thought someone turned the state into a cloud. Dense fog has rolled in overnight, dropping visibility to a quarter mile or less across the Piedmont and Triangle. The National Weather Service has a Dense Fog Advisory through 11 A.M. Take it slow if you're commuting. Use your low beams, not your brights — fog turns high beams into a wall of white. Give yourself extra space. Once that fog burns off by late morning, we're in for something special. Highs climb into the mid to upper 70s statewide — about 31 degrees above normal for early March. Charlotte and the Triangle both hit 78 degrees. Even the mountains see a pleasant 74. Light west winds keep things comfortable. Perfect weather for a lunchtime walk if you ask me. Tonight stays mild with lows in the low to mid 50s. The mountains drop to 52 degrees, while the Piedmont and Triangle settle near 55 to 57. Tuesday cranks the heat even higher. Highs soar into the low 80s across most of the state — Charlotte and the Triangle both reach 82 degrees, while the mountains hit 78. Near-record territory. There's a chance of scattered showers and maybe a thunderstorm, especially in the morning. Nothing severe expected, but keep an umbrella handy. Wednesday stays hot with mid 80s before a strong cold front crashes the party Wednesday night. That front brings widespread rain, isolated thunderstorms. And much cooler air. Thursday sees showers likely with highs only in the mid to upper 60s. The mountains could even see a rain-snow mix at higher elevations. Friday turns sunny and pleasant with mid 60s. The weekend looks beautiful — sunny skies with highs climbing back to around 70 degrees. Enjoy the warmth while it lasts. See you this afternoon.
