  • Kings of Leon - Aha Shake Heartbreak (Part 1)
    Jun 24 2025
We sit down with our long time friend Mitchell (a name we've dropped countless times on this podcast) to chat about Kings of Leon's second record Aha Shake Heartbreak. An extremely formative band and record for the 3 of us, we reminisce about seeing the band open for The Strokes in 2003, rushing down to the local record shop to grab a copy of Aha Shake in 2005, and dive deep into every track of the record. We discuss the brilliant lyrical balance of raw vulnerability with unbridled testosterone, and the southern tinged garage rock sound that defined the group just before their meteoric mainstream rise in the years to come. Join us next week for part 2. Tracklist Kings of Leon - Slow Night, So Long Kings of Leon - King of the Rodeo Kings of Leon - Taper Jean Girl Kings of Leon - Pistol of Fire Kings of Leon - Milk Kings of Leon - The Bucket This show is part of the Pantheon Podcast Network. • Spewing Poetry: The Undeniable Greatness of The Tragically Hip
    Apr 18 2025
We say it often on this podcast: the 90s is a bottomless pit of incredible rock music as wide as it is deep. And if you grew up in the United States like we did, you may have slept on arguably the greatest Canadian rock band of all time: The Tragically Hip. From the cryptically beautiful lyricism of frontman Gord Downie to the catchy hooks and song structures of the band behind him, we deep dive into their 1994 record Day For Night and ask as question we find ourselves asking constantly on this podcast: where has this band been all our lives? • Was Bush Really Grunge? Breaking Down Their Early Sound
    Mar 25 2025
We finally get around to talking about Bush and dive into their first 2 records: Sixteen Stone and Razorblade Suitcase. Released only 8 months after the death of Kurt Cobain, the music world was split between fans that wanted to move on from grunge, and those that were highly protective of it's legacy and culture. Bush got caught somewhere in the middle, seeing commercial success on one hand and scorn from devoted grunge heads on the other. But decades removed from the era, the 2 records stand out amongst the slew of grunge copycats that came and went.
