About this listen

Good evening. Nevada. I'm Michael Nally. Step outside and you might need sunglasses in Las Vegas but a parka in Ely. That's classic Nevada for you. We've got a massive temperature spread statewide today. Down south, you're basking in 77 degrees under clear skies. That's ten degrees above normal for early March. Up north? Reno tops out at 69, but Ely starts the day shivering at 28 degrees. The real story is the wind. The Sierra ridges are getting hammered today. Gusts are peaking at 80 miles an hour up there. That's enough to knock a hiker off balance. Here's the breakdown. Las Vegas climbs to 77 today with a light breeze at 7 to 13 miles an hour. Tonight cools to 51. Then Sunday soars to 79. By midweek, we flirt with 88 degrees. Spring is here early and it's not looking back. Reno sits pretty at 69 today. It stays pleasant with mostly clear skies. A weak cool front Tuesday knocks temps down slightly. But 70s return by Thursday. Ely wakes up to 28 degrees. You only hit 63 this afternoon. Winds shift from northeast to southwest, but moisture is nowhere to be found. A cool-down Tuesday drops highs to 53. Then 60s return by the weekend. Looking ahead, a stubborn ridge of high pressure parks over the West. This locks in dry, sunny days and unseasonably warm afternoons. Southern Nevada could hit 89 by next Saturday. That's nearly 25 degrees above normal. Northern valleys settle into the 70s. One last note before you go. Don't forget to set your clocks forward tonight. We're gaining daylight fast. Sunrise is at 6:04 AM and sunset is at 5:41 PM. The spring equinox is just 13 days away. See you tomorrow.
