  • Manga, Anime, Live Action - The One Piece Trifecta (feat. Justin P.)
    Nov 21 2025
For decades, One Piece has stood as one of the most beloved adventure sagas in fiction. But recently, it has reached new heights, even its creator, Eiichiro Oda, may not have fully anticipated. In this episode of our podcast, we dive deep into the “holy trinity” of One Piece: the groundbreaking manga, the visually stunning anime, and the surprise hit live-action Netflix adaptation.Manga: The original One Piece manga has broken new ground in the current arcs, including the long-awaited God Valley flashback. We finally get answers to central mysteries fans have speculated on for years: how Shanks joined the Pirate King’s crew, what drove Monkey D. Dragon to found the Revolutionary Army, and the real reason why Monkey D. Garp and Gol D. Roger allied to take on Rocks D. Xebec. These revelations mark some of the most shocking shifts in the story’s history. Anime: The anime adaptation by Toei Animation is also undergoing a significant evolution. Starting in 2026, the series will move away from weekly broadcasting and transition to a seasonal format, delivering only 26 new episodes per year (split into two cours). This change aims to enhance animation quality, tighten pacing, and reduce filler—although it also means the story will progress at a slower pace.Live-Action (Netflix): One Piece’s live-action adaptation has emerged as a rare success in anime-to-live-action. Season 2 is set to premiere on March 10, 2026, on Netflix. Meanwhile, season 3 is already in development, with Xolo Maridueña cast as Portgas D. Ace and Cole Escola cast as Bon Clay. We’ll explore what this means for adaptation strategy, fan expectations, and which fan-favourite characters are still to come.Beyond those three pillars, One Piece is making waves in games, merchandise, and global culture—solidifying its status as a cornerstone of pop culture and real-world influence. What are you most excited about in this next chapter of One Piece?
