About this listen
If you’ve been in DC for any length of time, you probably know about, or should know about, the District’s homegrown sound, Go-Go music, which is marking its one-year anniversary of being designated as the official music of the District of Columbia.
Today’s podcast features an interview with Dr. Natalie Hopkinson, a co-founder of the Don’t Mute DC movement that influenced the legislation to make Go-Go the official music of DC. Dr. Hopkinson is an associate professor in the Department of Communication, Culture and Media Studies at Howard University and currently serves as a member of the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities.
