Y esa promesa empieza, literalmente, al nacer.Según la Enmienda 14 de la Constitución, toda persona que nace en suelo estadounidense es ciudadana del país, sin importar el origen o el estatus migratorio de sus padres. Pero hoy, esa certeza está en entredicho.Propuestas políticas recientes buscan eliminar la ciudadanía automática. Los defensores dicen que así se frenaría la inmigración irregular. Los detractores advierten que se pondría en riesgo no solo un derecho fundamental, sino también el acceso a servicios esenciales —entre ellos, la atención médica materna e infantil. Cuando una madre entra a sala de parto, no piensa en la política. Piensa en su bebé. Pero si esta ley cambia, cada parto podría convertirse en un proceso burocrático y emocionalmente desgastante. The United States — a nation built on the promise of new opportunities. And that promise begins, quite literally, at birth. According to the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, every person born on U.S. soil is a citizen of the country, regardless of their parents’ origin or immigration status. But today, that certainty is being questioned.

Recent political proposals seek to eliminate automatic citizenship. Supporters argue this would help curb irregular immigration. Opponents warn it would put at risk not only a fundamental right but also access to essential services — including maternal and child healthcare. When a mother enters the delivery room, she doesn’t think about politics. She thinks about her baby. Yet if this law changes, every birth could turn into a bureaucratic and emotionally draining process.
