Mythtakes Happen is a worldbuilding podcast in its second season.

This is a teaser for our set-up episode, coming January 1st.

Here we lay the foundations for the glorious, drowned and fading solar system of the Celestial Deep and spend 12 scrumptious episodes adding depth to a setting YOU can use for free in your everyday TTRPG gaming.

Ever wondered how the professionals go about making an adventure from scratch? We wish we knew too! We gave it a crack anyway in our final Episode of Season 1. Chris and Aaron sit down with zero planning before the session (if you don't count all the previous episodes) to write the first playable adventure in Heliakon.

We hit all (some) of your favourite places we detailed earlier;

• Go to Sawtooth Lodge for a lovely chat with charming Basil Sawtooth himself!
• Tour Brightmarket, see the sights, buy some trinkets, wrestle with a gang of thieves for a chest of government-toppling documents, deeds and gold.
• A pleasant stroll at speed into the Brazen Dome where being squashed by the inexorable lowering of the ancient edifice is the least of your problems.
• Make your way through the historic Shallows, meet new people or better yet, avoid them.
• Escape your new friends to the scenic and occasionally safe Midvaults and immediately wish you hadn't.
• Caught between an inexplicable puzzle and a pack of hungry and oddly chatty ghouls is a good time to explicate in a hurry.
• The big Benson, Benson and Byrde Bank building is in sight, but there are still shadowy forces who would prefer you didn't make it in.

Is this a fascinating look into the real guts of the creative process and mechanics of adventure design or just two blokes giggling about the word 'shaft'?

We talk about revolutionary movements in Heliakon and the Illegitimate Children of Foolish Empires and the way that people organise in the face of terrible things. Our world becomes more fleshed out with the addition of further ways we stand against imperialism and colonialism. Definitely no parallels with the real world here.

We examine the Great Consociate Empire's Upright Doctrine and its support of the pseudo-scientific practice of psychomageiatism, a nonsense theory created to oppress the poor and justify the social standing of the wealthy.

And we delve into Weftenfray, the knot magic of the Halflings and how its intricate patterns hold the power to reshape the world (as well as the darker aspects of that mysterious practice).
