About this listen

Growing up in 1990s Sydney, Myra Karakelle rarely met others who shared her unique cultural food combinations, blending her Uzbek and Afghan heritage. Her family's dinner table, however, was a vibrant celebration of these two Central Asian cultures through food. Today, Myra brings these traditions, along with a love for Australian sandwiches, to her deli, MLK Deli. https://www.instagram.com/mlk.deli/?hl=en Chapters 00:00 Cultural Heritage and Culinary Roots 08:54 The Journey of a Unique Deli 16:19 From Teaching to Culinary Passion 18:31 Rediscovering Passion for Food and Creativity 19:48 Taking the Leap: Quitting the Job 21:03 Building the Dream: Opening a Sandwich Shop 26:05 Family Support and Overcoming Doubts 26:33 Unexpected Connections in Hospitality 28:06 Expanding the Vision: Opening a Second Venue 31:34 Understanding Different Clientele 32:43 Navigating Business Dynamics with Family 34:00 Embracing Risks and Finding Happiness 35:13 Future Aspirations and Contentment SUBSCRIBE TO OUR NEWSLETTER FOR EXCLUSIVE ARTICLES, NEWS, GIVEAWAYS AND BEHIND THE SCENES https://deepintheweeds.us6.list-manage.com/subscribe?u=d33e307cf7100cf947e2e6973&id=d17d8213f5 Follow Deep In The Weeds on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/deepintheweedspodcast/?hl=en Follow Huck https://www.instagram.com/huckstergram/ Follow Rob Locke (Executive Producer) https://www.instagram.com/foodwinedine/ LISTEN TO OUR OTHER FOOD PODCASTS https://linktr.ee/DeepintheWeedsNetwork Deep in the Weeds is a food podcast hosted by Anthony Huckstep in conversation with chefs, food producers and members of the hospitality industry.
