L'inferno apparentemente sembra non possedere un disegno musicale ma solo lamenti angosciosi che riempiono continuamente l'aria. Tuttavia possiamo dire che i riferimenti al canto che si trovano nella prima cantica del poema dantesco funzionano come esempi di musica diaboli, ovvero come una perversione dei canti sacri de pervadono il Purgatorio e il Paradiso.
