  • The Long Goodbye: It Can Happen Here
    Sep 1 2025

    Send us a text

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are resisting fascism wherever and whenever it pops up its evil head. We watched the 2020 film by Aneil Karia, The Long Goodbye.

Despite its impressive awards run, despite its star power, and even despite the fact that it’s a work of fiction filmmaking, it’s important to internalize the subtitle to this episode. What we see in this short film can absolutely happen wherever you are.

We’re starting this month of amazing short films with a heavy one, but it’s more important than ever these days. We encourage everyone to give this one a watch.

  • The Ringer: When the Fuck Did We Get Ice Cream?
    Aug 25 2025

    Send us a text

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are engaging in some extremely questionable sports activities. We watched the 2005 film from Barry W. Blaustein, The Ringer.

Who would have thought that a movie about a down on his luck man pretending to be intellectually disabled so he can enter and win the Special Olympics would not only be worth a couple chuckles, but also be heartwarming.

But desperate times calls for desperate measures for Steve Barker, I guess? Nah, we don’t condone that behavior, which is why it’s rounding out our fucked-up movies month!

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are going to find a better therapist. STAT! We watched the 2009 film from Lars von Trier, Antichrist.

You know you’re in for a rough time when you’ve lost your child in a tragic accident, experience wild hallucinations in the middle of a creepy forest, and, to top it all off, toss in some extreme body mutilation.

Oh, is this one part of our “fucked-up movies” month? How could you tell? We’re keeping it going strong with one of the more disturbing movies ever made. Enjoy!

  • Oldboy: Daddy Issues
    Aug 11 2025

    Send us a text

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are out for revenge after being locked up for way too damn long. We watched the 2003 film from Park Chan-wook, Oldboy.

I think it’s safe to say that this is the only movie in existence that suggests that being forcibly imprisoned for fifteen years without any explanation is somehow not the worst thing that could happen to a person. It’s quite the feat.

If you thought that our previous fucked-up movie episode was, indeed, really messed-up, then prepare yourself for this one. It’s a heck of a wild ride.

  • Funny Games: Could You Spare a Few Eggs?
    Aug 4 2025

    Send us a text

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are fighting for our lives against two sadistic boys in short-shorts and white gloves. We watched the 1997 film from Michael Haneke, Funny Games.

Fair warning to all the murderous monsters in psychotic golf attire out there: if any of you come to either Steven’s or my house asking for any amount of eggs, you’re going to be run off our respective properties.

We’re not joking around about that after watching this upsetting film. It’s a perfect start to our month full of “fucked-up movies.” Oh, what a month it’s going to be!

  • Fifty Shades of Black: Deuces, Bitches
    Aug 1 2025

    Send us a text

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are wading into problematic, but still somehow romantic waters. We watched the 2016 movie from Michael Tiddes, Fifty Shades of Black.

And by romantic, we mean “romaaantic?” Maybe? If you squint really hard and ignore all the racist stuff. Because when you do that, what you have left is a ridiculous story about a sadistic man-child and the woman who just wants to be loved while have a chair broken over her ass.

And in the end, isn’t that what we all want out of life? This month’s B-movie brings up those tough questions, along with a ranking of brilliant, a flunder, or the dreaded blunder.

  • Amélie: Tout Simplement Parfait
    Jul 28 2025

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are improving the lives of others in mischievous ways. We watched the 2001 film from Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Amélie.

Ah, what must it be like to be young, in love, and in Paris? If, like me, you’ve ever wondered life could be like, then Amélie is here to answer that question for you. Much like the charming character herself!

We’ve got a bona-fide classic here, folks. One of the sweetest movies ever made. It’s on our lists of best movies ever made. Is it on yours, too?

  • Cinema Paradiso: What Would Alfredo Do?
    Jul 21 2025

    Send us a text

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are growing up surrounded by the magic of the movies. We watched the 1988 film from Giuseppe Tornatore, Cinema Paradiso.

During most of this film, I’m way older than Totò. But that doesn’t mean I can’t aspire to be just like that too-clever, rambunctious kid when I grow up. Young Totò is the hero we can all aspire to be, minus the accidentally setting a house on fire.

So calling all film lovers, not only is this a movie designed to grab you by your creative souls, it also features one of the great characters. We could all aspire to be more like our dear Totò.
