About this listen

Good evening. Missouri. I'm Michael Nally. In Step outside you’ll feel it immediately, that heavy, damp chill clinging to the air after yesterday's rain. We picked up about a third of an inch statewide. And the clouds are definitely slow to clear this morning. But don’t let the gray skies fool you—this is just the calm before a serious warmup. We’re shaking off that cold front that swept through last night. Southwest Missouri woke up to patchy fog and lows in the mid-30s. Head west and you’re sitting at 39 degrees, though a breeze makes it feel closer to 34. Over in Eastern Missouri, you’re at 38 degrees under partly cloudy skies. That fog in the southwest should burn off by late morning, leaving us with a mostly dry, increasingly sunny day. Clear skies take over tonight. Lows dip to 39 in Western Missouri, 38 in the East. And 35 in the Southwest. But here’s the twist—those numbers are actually *rising* overnight in some spots. Yes, you heard that right: temperatures will climb a few degrees after midnight as warm air starts rushing in. The sun takes center stage Sunday. Highs jump to 69 in the west, 68 in the southwest. And 66 in the east. That’s running 33 degrees above normal for early March. Winds pick up too—gusts to 23 miles an hour in Western Missouri by afternoon. Perfect day for a walk if you ask me. Hold onto your hats, because Monday and Tuesday bring *summer-like* heat. We’re talking highs in the upper 70s to near 80—yes, in *March*. Records could fall, especially in St. Louis and Columbia. But with that warmth comes trouble: strong to severe thunderstorms roll in Tuesday, along with flooding concerns. The Storm Prediction Center already has us in a slight risk zone for severe weather, with hail and damaging winds possible. Rainfall totals could hit 1 to 2 inches in spots, which is the last thing our soggy ground needs. A cold front sweeps through Wednesday, dropping highs back to the 50s. But we rebound quickly—by Friday, we’re back in the 60s under partly sunny skies. And here’s a fun note: we’re gaining 2 minutes and 30 seconds of daylight every day now. Spring equinox is just 13 days away! Farther north in Aroostook County, there’s a Flood Warning in effect. The Roubidoux Creek is running high, so avoid those low-lying roads today. See you tomorrow.
