- Around 6:30 p.m. EDT, a lone gunman, later identified as 27-year-old Shane Tamura, entered the lobby and opened fire with an M4-style assault rifle while wearing a bulletproof vest.
- He killed four people—including off-duty NYPD officer Didarul Islam, a Bangladeshi immigrant and father of two, serving as security in the building—and left at least one person critically injured before taking his own life on the 33rd floor
