A recently married young woman, Clara, is in her home in London on the morning of Christmas Eve 1843. On reviewing the low mental mood of her normally cheery husband Frederick, she begins to emotionally but romantically and playfully offer him an education on real love. He has returned unhappy after his uncle, Ebeneezer Scrooge, rejected the red scarf that Frederick bought him as a Christmas present. This is not an uncommon event.
