En los versículos 1-17 se presenta el libro de la genealogía; en 1:18-25 se narra el relato del nacimiento, pero en este caso se resalta el origen divino de Jesús: nacido de María siendo virgen y engendrado por el Espíritu Santo.
Este énfasis en el origen divino constituye una segunda preocupación importante en Mateo. Ya que Mateo se preocupa en explicar que:
- Todo lo que sucedió en Jesucristo cumplió la profecía que se
encuentra en las Escrituras (v. 22).
- Jesucristo es Emmanuel, Dios con nosotros (v. 23); y
- El nombre Jesús indica su propósito al venir: salvarnos de nuestros pecados (v. 21).
