About this listen
1 John 4:1
“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God…”
There are moments when I sit outside my house and watch the pine trees that line the yard. Most days they stand tall and steady, but every once in a while the wind picks up. When a straight wind blows through, every tree bends the same way. They may sway, but they agree. They move together. There is order to it.
But when the wind starts swirling, it’s a different story. One tree leans east, another west. Branches twist. Needles shake. Nothing feels settled. Nothing feels clear. That kind of wind brings movement, but not direction.
John tells us in 1 John 4:1 not to believe every spirit, but to test them, to discern whether they are truly from God.
