About this listen
Lucky Khambule joins us to discuss his work with the Movement of Asylum Seekers in Ireland (MASI).
Ireland's asylum system of 'direct provision' has drawn criticism for its use of for-profit reception centres to house those awaiting a determination on their asylum claim, which has sometimes taken upwards of 10 years.
Lucky, along with a number of other activists, took over the reception centre they were living in in 2014. They demanded improved living conditions and won. This then developed into a nationwide campaign known as the Movement of Asylum Seekers in Ireland.
