Cuando el siglo XX tenía apenas unos días de vida, en enero de 1901, Pablo Picasso llegó a Madrid. Entre los cuadros que pintó en su última etapa en la capital, se encuentra el lienzo al que dedicamos este episodio: "Mujer en azul". Raúl Martínez, conservador de pintura y dibujo en el Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, nos cuenta qué autores influyeron a Picasso en la elaboración de este retrato, o cómo fue abandonado por el autor y recuperado cinco décadas después.
