Luis Arraez flew out to deep left-center field with the game-winning run on 1st base to end the game, and the Philadelphia Phillies escaped Petco Park with a 2-1 win over the San Diego Padres to wrap up the 1st half of the season and hit the all-star break.

Pinch-hitter Jake Cronenworth drew a 4-pitch walk to start the 9th, Bryce Johnson laid down a sacrifice bunt, and Elias Diaz popped out, they walked Fernando Tatis Jr., to face Arraez.

Jose Iglesias Manny Machado Manny singled and Xander Bogaerts walked to greet reliever Orion Kerkering, but Jackson Merrill popped out and Jose Iglesias flew out to end the threat.

The Phillies took a 2-1 lead in the 8th, when rookie David Morgan relieved Arian Morejon after Bryce Harper’s 1-out double. Morgan struck out out Nick Castellanos for our #2, but JD Realmuto doubled to left-center to score Harper.

Jose Iglesias’ RBI single off Christopher Sanchez with the infield in scored Manny Machado in the bottom of the 7th to tie the game at 1-1. Machado led off the inning with a single, went to 2nd on Xander Bogaerts’ single, and scored on Iglesias’ hit last the dove of 2nd baseman Bryson Stott.

The hit and RBI were sweet redemption for Iglesias, who struck out with the bases loaded to end the bottom of the 1st against Sanchez, who settled in and dominated the Padres after that.

Pivetta deserved better. The right-handed gave up just 1 unearned run on 3 hits over 6 2/3 innings, striking out 8 and walking 3, yet he remains stuck on 9 wins. Pivetta could easily have 3-4 more wins with some run support.

After striking out Trea Turner and Kyle Schwarber, Pivetta issued a 2-out walk to Bryce Harper, Nick Castellanos reached on a rare throwing error by Manny Machado, and Realmuto reached on an infield single, loading the bases for

Stott, who hit a chopper to 1st. Luis Arraez’s throw bounced off Pivetta’s glove, and was ruled an error on Arraez.

Sanchez went 7.1 innings, allowing 6 hits and 1 earned run, with 6 strikeouts.

The San Diego Padres came back twice against Philadelphia Phillies Ace Zach Wheeler to beat the NL-East leaders 5-4 at Petco Park and take a 2-0 series lead and set themselves up to go for the sweep in tomorrow’s finale.

Manny Machado hit the go-ahead sacrifice fly, Jackson Merrill hit 2 home runs off Phillies’ ace Wheeler, tying the game both times, and the Padres’ bullpen- minus their 3 all-star relievers- slammed the door on the Phillies.

With having pitched back-to-back days, closer Robert Suarez, Jason Adam and Adrian Morejon

Jeremiah Estrada struck out Trea Turner, got Kyle Schwarber on a fly ball to left, and Bryce Harper to ground to 1st to close it out.

Yuki Matsui got Brandon Marsh to pop out with runners in 1st & 3rd and 2 outs in the 8th inning.

Machado drove in Fernando Tatis Jr., who had just gone from 1st to 3rd on Luis Arraez’s single with 1 out in the 7th.

Manny had just made a beautiful play to get Edmondo Sosa on a chopper to 3rd with the bases loaded to help rookie David Morgan get out of the jam.

Merrill’s 2nd homer tied the game at 4 in the bottom

of the 6th, sending the Petco Park crowd into a frenzy.

Merrill- who walked 3x in yesterday’s series opener- came into the game mired in a 5-53 slump, and he hadn’t homered since May 27th.

Sosa ripped a 2-out, 2-run single off Yu Darvish- making his 2nd start of the season- to give the Phillies a 4-2 lead.

Merrill’s 1st homer- an opposite field shot in the 2nd- tied the game at 2. Martin Maldonado singled in Jake Cronenworth- who had doubled-

Darvish gave the Ohiloies the early lead in the top of the 2nd inning, hitting Alec Bohm with a pitch, then throwing the ball away on Nick Castellanos’ grounder to the mound, allowing Bohm to score, then giving up an RBI single to JB Realmuto scoring Castellanos.

In the bottom half, Merrill snapped his career-worst slump with a 2-run home run scoring Gavin Sheets to tie the game at 2.
