Host Kevin Borba thinks Deion Sanders and Colorado face three key challenges in 2025. First is the recurring issue of physicality on defense. The Buffaloes gave up a staggering 320 rushing yards in their season-opening loss, a familiar weakness that must be corrected. Secondly, Borba points to play-calling. The offense, despite forcing three turnovers, failed to be "definitive" and "decisive," producing just one touchdown. Lastly, game management remains a problem. The Buffs' inability to capitalize on turnovers and a lack of explosive plays hindered their momentum, showing that strategic adjustments are necessary to turn defensive opportunities into offensive points.

With a full offseason to implement his system, the expectation was a more dynamic and consistent attack. However, the offense managed just one touchdown despite the defense creating three turnovers. While Shurmur has a long and respected NFL resume, including developing quarterbacks and improving offenses, the pressure is on to translate that success to Boulder. If the Buffs continue to sputter offensively, especially after losing key players, Coach Prime will need to see significant improvement or consider a change. The clock is ticking for Shurmur to get this offense on track.
