 Listening may be the most unappreciated aspect of communication. Yet, it is a foundation of successful relationships of all kinds. Dr Camille explores the differences in our brains when we are simply hearing, as well as when we’re really listening. She explores the social barriers to true listening and how to overcome them. True listening takes a generosity of spirit. It takes a belief that the other person has something to teach us. It takes empathy. People are always trying to tell us who they are. To hear that, we need to listen. As author Ram Charan said, “Truly empathetic listening requires courage — the willingness to let go of the old habits and embrace new ones. But once acquired, these listening habits are the very skills that turn would-be leaders into true ones.”
