En la noche del 12 de agosto de 1952, conocida después como la Noche de los Poetas Asesinados, trece intelectuales judíos fueron fusilados en la prisión de Lubianka en Moscú. Entre ellos estaban escritores y poetas como Peretz Markish, Itzik Fefer, David Bergelson y Leib Kvitko, figuras centrales de la literatura en yidis y miembros del Comité Judío Antifascista.
