Durante el acto segundo transcurren hechos inesperados y reveladores. Luego de marcharse el zapatero, la niña será quien le da la noticia a la zapatera. Aunque ella no pueda tolerar su soledad, se muestra fiel a su marido. Para ganarse la vida, ha debido abrir una taberna donde acuden los mozos que la cortejan. Un día inesperado, un hombre vestido de titiritero se presenta en la taberna de sorpresa. La gente del pueblo acude y recita un poema relacionado a su vida con su esposa, la zapatera. Finalmente él se quita el disfraz y se declaran su amor mutuo.
