"Oscuridad" de Lord Byron es un poema narrativo que presenta un sueño apocalíptico de un mundo sumido en la noche eterna después de que el sol y la luna se apagan, la temperatura desciende drásticamente, y la desesperación, el hambre y el canibalismo llevan a la extinción de casi toda la vida, concluyendo con la soledad del "último hombre" y la universalización de la oscuridad. El poema fue escrito en el "Año Sin Verano" de 1816, en parte inspirada por la erupción del volcán Tambora, la cual provocó un enfriamiento global.
