  • Jive with the cast of "Beehive"
    Aug 29 2025

Beehive, a musical revue celebrating the women of rock and roll from the 1960s, is set to run from September 5 to 21 at the Actors Theatre of Indiana in Carmel.

The show features 26 songs and iconic dances from the era, highlighting influential female artists such as Janis Joplin, Tina Turner, Leslie Gore, and Aretha Franklin. Beehive aims to explore the diverse musical styles of the 1960s, showcasing the evolution of rock and roll through the decade.

“Beehive is basically a musical review, so it takes place from 1960 to 1969, and it covers all of the women of rock and roll in the 60s,” Abigail Storm explained.

The performers, including Michaela McGarel, Kira Rangel, Kayla Perry, Rachel Dudt, and Riley Francis, have bonded over the high-energy production. “This is such a good group of girls to like we’ve all bonded so it’s going to be awesome,” one performer shared.

The show is scripted, meaning the songs were pre-selected to represent the era’s iconic female musicians best. Audiences can expect a vibrant performance filled with familiar tunes and energetic dance routines. The production also includes two original songs, one of which features the ‘beehive dance,’ incorporating popular dances from the 1960s such as the pony, the jerk, and the monkey. Beehive not only celebrates the music but also reflects the women’s movement of the time, adding a layer of historical context to the performance.

Beehive promises to be an exciting and nostalgic journey through the music and cultural shifts of the 1960s, offering audiences a chance to relive the era’s vibrant energy and groundbreaking female artists.

  • Expert tips to keep furniture scratch-free
    Aug 23 2025

KJ The Kitty Correspondent offers practical advice to help cat owners keep their furniture scratch-free while ensuring their feline friends are happy.

KJ suggests placing new scratching options, such as tall sisal posts and flat cardboard scratchers, right next to new furniture to divert cats from scratching couches. Using catnip or silvervine can make these alternatives more appealing.

To protect furniture, KJ recommends covering high-risk areas like corners and armrests with throw blankets for the first few weeks. This not only protects the furniture but also adds a decorative touch. Keeping treats nearby allows owners to reward cats instantly for using scratchers instead of furniture, reinforcing positive behavior.

KJ advises against scolding cats during the initial days, suggesting calm redirection and praise for good choices instead. Regularly refreshing scratching spots by replacing pads, rotating toys, and changing locations can keep them attractive to cats. Interactive play, such as using wand toys or laser pointers, can help reduce boredom-induced scratching by providing mental and physical stimulation.

By following these strategies, cat owners can create a harmonious environment where both pets and furniture coexist peacefully.

For more tips, KJ The Kitty Correspondent invites cat enthusiasts to join the SuPURR Cat Parent Society.

The Te’Andra Tough Foundation is hosting its annual Amber for Awareness 5K to raise awareness for appendix cancer, honoring the legacy of Te’Andra, who passed away at 27 from the disease.

The event, organized by Tonya Adams, founder of the Te’Andra Tough Foundation, and Crystal Burris, event manager, aims to bring attention to appendix cancer, a rare condition that claimed the life of Teyandra.

“Te’Andra was amazing. She was resilient. She had a heart of gold,” said Tonya Adams, reflecting on her daughter’s life and impact. “She continues to touch lives through your foundation and through the 5K that you do for her,” added Crystal Burris, emphasizing the ongoing legacy of Te’Andra.

Te’Andra was diagnosed with stage four appendix cancer after a spot was found on her lung and liver during a routine check-up for asthma.

Despite being healthy and active, she battled the disease for three months before passing away. The Amber for Awareness 5K not only raises awareness but also celebrates Te’Andra’s life and legacy.

Participants can register on the foundation’s website and social media platforms, where updates and information are regularly posted.

The event features trophies designed with wings and hearts, symbolizing Te’Andra’s enduring spirit.

Sponsors like Indiana Memorial Funeral and Cremation have contributed to the event, helping to honor her memory.
