About this listen

Good morning. Kentucky. I'm Michael Nally. That overnight rain finally packed its bags. Two-thirds of an inch statewide, leaving us with gray skies and 49 degrees this morning. A cold front just swept through, shoving the last showers southeast. Here's what happens next. Clouds crack apart this afternoon as drier air filters in. Highs hit the mid-60s statewide — 63 in Lexington and Louisville, climbing to 67 in the eastern mountains. South Central Kentucky might catch one last drizzle around 7 A.M., but it clears fast. Winds stay gentle, shifting northwest to west. Tonight brings clearing skies and cooler air. Lows drop to the low-to-mid 40s across most areas. The coolest valleys could dip to the upper 30s under calm winds. Monday looks beautiful. Sunshine returns with highs jumping to the low 70s. That's the warm-up you've been waiting for. By Monday night, moisture creeps back in. A slight chance of showers and storms develops after 2 A.M. Here's where it gets interesting. Tuesday stays warm — mid-to-upper 70s — but scattered showers and thunderstorms become likely as a strong system approaches. Wednesday is the big day. Showers and thunderstorms are expected, some potentially severe. The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted our area with a 15 percent risk for damaging winds. Highs reach the mid-70s before a powerful cold front crashes through Wednesday night. Behind that front, temperatures plunge. Thursday's highs struggle to reach the upper 40s to low 50s. Rain could mix with snow showers Wednesday night into Thursday morning, especially in northern and eastern counties. By Friday, we bounce back to the 60s. Don't forget — clocks spring forward tonight. You lose an hour of sleep, but sunset tonight is at 7:44 P.M. More daylight ahead. See you this afternoon.
