 Atahualpa Yupanqui (in der Quechua-Sprache bedeutet sein Name „wer von weit her kommt und etwas zu sagen hat”) ist der Künstlername von Héctor Roberto Chavero Aramburu, der am 31. Januar 1908 in Pergamino, Provinz Buenos Aires, geboren wurde, und am 23. Mai 1992 in Nîmes, Frankreich, starb. "Don Ata", wie man ihn nannte, war Liedermacher, Gitarrist, Dichter und Schriftsteller, Stolz Argentiniens.
Er gilt als der wichtigste argentinische Folkloremusiker, seine Werke wurden von großen Musikern interpretiert wie z.B. Mercedes Sosa, Pedro Aznar, Los Chalchaleros, Horacio Guarany, Jorge Cafrune, Alfredo Zitarrosa, José Larralde, Víctor Jara, Ángel Parra, Jairo, Andrés Calamaro, Divididos u.v.a. und sind nach wie vor im Repertoire unzähliger Musiker aus dem In- und Ausland.
