About this listen

I published my first newsletter before the age of ten, written using my next-door neighbor’s typewriter, copied with carbon paper, and distributed to mailboxes on my bicycle. One of my first stories was the obituary of John Belushi. Strange for a ten year old? Yes!

He was clearly furious and lashing out when he did this, and I was quickly reminded of how we all know a man like this in our lives who speaks to women and others with the disdain only an insecure man can muster. As for the leader of the Trump administration, I suppose it is in character with what a man who has been found liable for sexual abuse would do.Day 300 is day 300, baby! It is pretty crazy to have made it here. This happened to be the day after the leader of the Trump administration suggested death for ex-military Democratic lawmakers. It seems so long ago now. I suppose that one bright spot about the constant spray from the hose of insanity is that the insanity is constantly being replenished, so it is fresh.Day 301 sees me pondering how tethered we are to the internet, and I don’t mean as a social, information, or entertainment tool; I’m talking about how the infrastructure of everything we consider normal relies on the flip of a switch. This thought came about after the second global outage in as many weeks that kept me from being able to access my grocery list!Day 302 fell on the day after newly elected NYC mayor Zohran Mamdani visited the Oval Office, where he seemed to hypnotize the leader of the Trump administration into some kind of fawning fan boy. Even the planted rage-baiting right-wing journalists failed to rage-bait Mr. Mamdani. I suggest a few theories about how and why it went down this way. Stay tuned to see if you agree.Day 303 is dedicated to addressing a commenter with one of those ten-number usernames who sarcastically calls me brave with the kind of tenuous grip on grammar that I enjoy taking to task and mocking. Of course, I don’t feel guilty because this commenter, like so many others, is likely a bot or a paid rage farmer. Believing this allows making mockery oh so delicious.Day 304 is Thanksgiving Eve, where I solicit sympathy for the state of my family, or lack thereof. I admit that I will be alone, but will still be accompanied by the hope that is in my heart. I don’t consider any life state permanent. The only permanence is in demise, and so I accept the flux of reality and ponder my therapist appointment to come later in the day.Day 305 is Thanksgiving, and I take the opportunity to sympathize with the overeaters in the crowd and to warn against the capitalism and consumerism that arrives the next day, on the ill-named Black Friday. Don’t forget: The organizations waiting to take our money do not care about our happiness, health, or prosperity any more than is required to gain our patronage.+++Buy My Book! • The Apples In Stereo by Josh BloomChoose your preferred bookseller: http://applesbook.com.Hear me interviewed about the book on NPR-member station KMUW’s Into Music podcast here and the Don’t Bother Wearing Seatbelts podcast here.+++Come With Me To See! • Spike Lee’s Highest 2 Lowest (and unintentionally) Akira Kurosawa’s High and LowWatch at YouTube: https://youtu.be/hOqA_etIGhE+++More about Josh:I published my first newsletter before the age of ten, written using my next-door neighbor’s typewriter, copied with carbon paper, and distributed to mailboxes on my bicycle. One of my first stories was the obituary of John Belushi. • Episode #58: 1461 Days of Ignoring The Trump Administration | Nov. 7-Nov. 13, 2025
    Dec 6 2025
Watch all of the original 1461 Days of Ignoring The Trump Administration TikTok posts from Nov. 7-Nov. 13, 2025 on YouTube!+++This week on the show...On Day 292, it’s time to celebrate once again! We are at 20% through 1461 days of ignoring the Trump administration! As usual, I take this moment to encourage myself and you to remember that this mission is about being mindful, optimistic, and hopeful as we persevere, while at the same time gaining a perspective we never would have if we were not suffering the dum-dums in our midst. On Day 293, I address a commenter named TikTokUser5900, and you should know by now that my criticism comes in the form of taking this user to task about their poor grammar. The pride people are taking in not being able to read, speak, or write coincides with the abolition of the Department of Education. Thanks so much for the content inspiration, Trump administration! On Day 294, I discuss everyone’s need for authenticity. We want the people we interact with to be authentic, and we want to be perceived as authentic, too. I remind you that the leader of the Trump Administration is perceived as authentic by his followers because he is authentic to his character. We can count on him to be exactly who he is, which, on this particular day, I felt salty enough to say that exactly who he is is a lying piece of crap.On Day 295, I do something I could not have ever predicted, and that is to congratulate the leader of the Trump administration for what appears to be some unexpected support of the LGBTQ community in the form of the possible revelation of some potentially intimate moments with the former leader of the Clinton administration. I don’t believe the rumors, but it is pretty funny (and gross) to contemplate. On Day 296, I ask, “Do you know who Tony from Brooklyn is?” I will not reveal who Tony is now, so you will have to stay tuned, but I will tell you this question is related to a discussion I had with a conservative friend about how to successfully talk to people in a way that will leave them feeling like you aren’t full of s**t. I mean, who’s not going to give a minute of their time to Tony from Brooklyn? On Day 297, I address the concern about the future of hemp-derived products as a bill makes its way through Congress, attempting to outlaw them federally. The message on this day isn’t necessarily about this one initiative. It is about the fact that freedom is already out of the bag. We are too used to it, and it will not be taken away, especially by low-IQ old farts named Tommy Tuberville, senator from Alabama. On Day 298, I continue to invoke the name of Kamala Harris because I believe in the power of Black women, and I believe in the power of this Black woman. I consistently hear that a reason for not voting for Kamala was her perceived inability to handle Putin. I will explain a little bit about my own history with Black women and how they handled me.+++Buy My Book! • The Apples In Stereo by Josh BloomPre-Order: http://applesbook.com+++Spike Lee & Akira Kurosawa!Watch my latest “Come With Me To See” episode: https://youtu.be/hOqA_etIGhE+++More about Josh:I published my first newsletter before the age of ten, written using my next-door neighbor’s typewriter, copied with carbon paper, and distributed to mailboxes on my bicycle. One of my first stories was the obituary of John Belushi. Nov 18 2025
Watch all of the original 1461 Days of Ignoring The Trump Administration TikTok posts from Oct. 31-Nov. 6, 2025 on YouTube!+++This week on the show...On Day 285, I address the cinefiles in the Josh Bloom Podcast audience when I reference a film that was discussed on Blank Check, one of the dozens of film podcasts I listen to. This film is the depressing and annoying Inside Llewyn Davis. Stay tuned to hear why I dislike it and how that relates to the leader I also dislike. My opinion on this film is unpopular, but I was psyched to see that one of my mentors agreed with me.On Day 286, I casually mention casually seeing a casual uproar about the leader of the Trump administration’s not-so-casual interview with the casually becoming a casualty news program 60 Minutes. Sometimes I feel like I am the only person who sees all the words and deeds of this man through the singular lens that I have always seen him through, for both good and bad. I see him as a douche, a dick, a dumb-dumb. This was fine when he was a game show host, but absolute power is not a game. Anyway, we’ll get into it.Day 287 fell on the day after the historic election that saw Zohran Mamdani become the mayor-elect of New York City. I did not follow this campaign closely, but I knew that people I felt comfortable with felt comfortable with him, and I knew that people I didn’t feel comfortable with didn’t. We will see what happens when he takes office, but the decisive wins for Democrats did happen, and these wins indicate to me that the message of “1461 Days of Ignoring The Trump Administration” shines through the s**t. Mindfulness, optimism, and hope. Let’s go!I return to film talk on Day 288 to say that I have never seen the film Scarface, but I know enough to know that the lead character, Tony Montana, is incredibly corrupt and has extremely gaudy taste. This is just like some other thug we know. Do I need to say his name? Here’s a clue: gold-plated! I confess that I have never seen someone in public life who is so devoid of any attachment to aesthetic quality. I realize this is a minor observation, considering all the problems we face, but I still believe that a lack of aesthetics is a problem worth acknowledging. On Day 289, I somehow express backhanded gratitude to the Trump administration for exposing the racist, bigoted, and violent people among us so that we can avoid them. I guess it’s good that these kinds of people feel like they can just be themselves for the moment, kind of like a breath of fresh air in the atmosphere of Hell. I would expect no less from the followers of a leader who is fighting in the Supreme Court to keep poor children from getting access to food stamps. On Day 290, I am pissed about the leader of the Trump administration withholding food stamps from needy citizens that he is supposed to be helping, but I also have a take that tells me we are nearing the end of this madness. I have said he will take us to the bottom before we can rebuild from that perspective. We’re getting there, and that means a new day will dawn. I also say “doody” on this day, so that’s fun!On Day 291, I discuss a sense memory I had the other day about feeling like surviving the leader of the Trump Administration, and the Trump administration feels like surviving the pandemic. We were all confused and scared for a time, but then we began to manage our lives in a way that allowed us to persevere, remain productive, and continue planning for our futures. We are doing the same as we continue to ignore the Trump administration!+++Buy My Book!
