EL barrio londinense de Whitechapel, era una zona de los más pobres de Londres. La miseria, la suciedad y la violencia en sus calles era su signo de identidad. Un barrio sobrepoblado, plagado de borrachos y prostitutas, de niños mendigando y de inmigrantes no deseados. En este escenario de indigencia y podredumbre situamos a uno de los asesinos en serie, no más prolífico, pero sí más mediático y más sanguinario: Jack el Destripador. El nombre se lo puso él mismo enviando cartas a los periódicos bajo ese apodo, que hacia honor a su modus operandi, ya que, literalmente abría a las víctimas en canal y les extraía los órganos.
