It is about her run-down, rent-controlled apartment building in Santa Monica, CA. Lauren has lived there for over 20 years, and has wanted to get out "since the day she moved in" with her ex-husband, who has since run off with the babysitter. As a single mother, Lauren tries to make her apartment feel like home, and yearns for connection with her neighbors.
In the pilot episode, Lauren talks to friend and fellow Moth host Brian Finkelstein, as she embarks on her quest to get to know the people in her building. She also sits down for a revealing conversation with her upstairs neighbor Ella Mové, who is about to embark on a journey of her own.
