  • August 1977 (Elvis)
    Aug 19 2025

Gareth Gwynn is heading to Edinburgh! Having repeatedly told people he wasn't going, it turns out he'll be doing his show "Cyril" in the Hotel Indigo Edinburgh, York Place, EH1 3JD at 4pm on the 20th-24th August 2025. It's about history, but not history you remember (unless you are over 100 and lived in Gower). That's just about all the information we have right now, but anything else, he'll pop on his website, like a BBC TV show from 2001.

As for this week? Well, we start with a peak behind the curtain. What happen when we start researching a month and think "this is a bit bleak?" Often, we ditch it and find another (which means, yes, one day there'll be a real tranche of tricksy ones to smash through - but we'll cross that miserable bridge when we get to it).

But not today! Esyllt Sears saw the death of Elvis Presley on the list and decided to push on. Somehow we also cover 1970s clothing safety standards, what to do when your friend works for a Burger King and we ask the question, how distracted have you been by a strawberry? This has all been quite a last minute affair, so that's just about all the information we have right now, but anything else, he'll pop on his website (God, that's awfully Xennial isn't it? Having a website? Jeez).

We couldn't put out a message just saying that, so here's a clip from last week's show we'd put aside for the next "Leftovers" episode, all about August 2003. Can’t vouch for any of the pronunciation in this one.

  • August 2003 (Movie Night)
    Aug 12 2025

We give the more newsy-news of August 2003 a wide berth this week, preferring to concentrate on the film releases of the month. Gareth Gwynn was working in a cinema, so should have the inside track on what was going on in movieland. However, what he actually discusses with Esyllt Sears is the millitary's preferences for sweets, prepping for a jazz-themed purge and Nicholas Parsons.

  • August 1995 (Drinking and Reading)
    Aug 5 2025

Esyllt Sears and Gareth Gwynn deal with what (or, more accurately when) people were drinking in August 1995 as changes to pub opening times were introduced - meaning that, for the first time, you could stay in a pub all afternoon on a Sunday. We also tackle with the literature of the era, covering what you read in a caravan (see image) and the summer of 1995 in Reading.

  • July 1980 (Moscow Olympics)
    Jul 28 2025

It's July 1980 and the world looks to Moscow. Well, some of the world looks to Moscow because 66 countries chose to boycott that year's Olympic Games, but the ones who do turn up are treated to an obscene gesture by a Polish althlete, a cartoon with a somewhat confusing message and a genuinely moving closing ceremony. Gareth Gwynn talks Esyllt Sears through what is, technically, the cleanest Olympics of all time - before tackling MFI and Enterpriese Zones.

  • CHARLOTTE BERMAN (The Traitors, Big Brother and July 2000)
    Jul 15 2025

We are joined by the star of the legendary third series of The Traitors - the absolutely fantastic CHARLOTTE BERMAN to talk Bop-it, being banished and an awful lot more besides.

Yes, there are spoilers galore for that series (and, indeed, the very first series of Big Brother if you're really behind) but also plenty to enjoy if you've never seen an episode but wonder what life in the castle might be like.

Unusually, she's the only one NOT doing a Welsh accent, but you can expect plenty of Traitors gossip (she kept a diary!) plus Charlotte's memories of The Dome, royal deaths (not the one you're expecting) and musicals - as well as her choice for our own museum dedicated to recent history, The Xennial Dome.

Also, thanks very much to The Celtic Media Festival for finding us a room to record in. We asked if there was an empty room somewhere and were provided with a 100+ seat cinema and, honestly, that's where I want to record all our interview episodes from now on.

You can follow Charlotte on Instagram at @charlotteberman91 and you can send us a message on imsonotoverit@gmail.com or contact us on one of the following...

  • July 2000 (Escorts and Atlases)
    Jul 8 2025

If you're in London, Gareth Gwynn is appearing with his show Cyril at the Camden Fringe from 28-30 July. Tickets are available now.

Esyllt Sears is on BBC One Wales' Live From Merthyr Tydfil which is available on BBC iPlayer now.

Esyllt Sears grew up in Aberyswyth, but what does she remember of one of the most audacious crimes committed in the town during the summer of 2000? That's when £70,000 worth of pages from antique atlases were stolen from the National Library of Wales - but how did they do it? And how long does it take for anyone to notice a 17th Century map has gone missing? We also discuss the naming of the Ford Escort and, bringing it to the present day, the latest goings on in Cafe Diana. The article is here, should you be interested in the details.

In some ways, his is a little bit of an unofficial "Part 1" since, next week, we'll be joined by Charlotte Berman from The Traitors where we'll touch upon July 2000 all over again with the launch of the first Big Brother UK - And who better to lift the lid on reality TV than someone who spent several weeks in The Traitors Castle?! (Surely an upgrade from the Big Brother House).

If you're in London, Gareth Gwynn is appearing with his show Cyril at the Camden Fringe from 28-30 July. Tickets are available now.

Spicemania and Girl Power kicked-off in July 1996 so Esyllt Sears has turned the brightness on her laptop up as far as it will go in the hope of being able to see their first rather poorly-lit video. Did you buy Wannabe first time around? If so, let us know - but as July 1996 was when you could get your first Hotmail email address, so why not do so by logging-in to your old account, fighting past a generation's worth of spam and sending us a message on imsonotoverit@gmail.com or contact us on one of the following...
