Psalm 35 is a wonderful prayer that encapsulates a perfect balance between unrestrained, raw, voiced emotions and submissive, hopeful faith in the God of Justice. It has been quoted in the New Testament in reference to Jesus. For battles past, present and future this is a fantastic Psalm to remember, reflect on and even reference.

In Psalm 34 David chooses to extol and praise God while is on the run from Saul. At the point of this Psalm’s inception, David was literally acting insane in order to draw mercy from his enemies and escape death. Why would he praise God in the midst of what seemed like the epitome of God forsaking him or letting him down? It is because David felt heard by God. He had tasted of God and he knew that even though he was afflicted, God had heard his cries and that means, God was working out good.

We are joined again by Peter Ayiro, who returns to link Psalm 31 back to Psalm 27 for us. Does doubt fill you when you find yourself in the midst of a difficult situation after following God? Do you wonder whether he really led you or you were somehow deceived into the trouble you now face? Psalm 31 is a beautiful example of how David reminded himself of who God was and what he had done for him, even in the midst of an attack from his foes. His defiance in choosing to worship God and remember His deeds and trust Him, rather than submitting to his own thoughts of fear and doubt, is a posture that we can all learn from and emulate.
