Summary

 October 1997, in the town of Whitaker, Missouri. Luna recounts a week when the pumpkins on Center Street began appearing with carvings she didn't recognize—faces that were too sharp, too old, too knowing. The man who carved them was a newcomer named Ezra, and he told her that the pumpkins remember things the town has forgotten.
