About this listen

Good morning. Kentucky. I'm Michael Mosby. Step outside and you're greeted by 65 degrees and clear skies, feels like spring arrived early. But buckle up, because the next 48 hours are going to be a wild ride. Scattered showers and thunderstorms roll through this morning, wrapping up before 10 A.M. Then the sun breaks through and temperatures absolutely soar, we're talking near-record warmth. South Central Kentucky hits 80 degrees — that's 30 degrees above normal for early March. Central Kentucky reaches 75, north Central climbs to 77. Eastern Kentucky tops out at 79 under partly sunny skies, breezy southwest winds around 10 miles an hour keep things feeling springlike. Moving on. After midnight, storms fire up again as a strong cold front barrels in from the west. Wednesday brings multiple waves of thunderstorms — the first round hits early morning, followed by a more intense line between 2 P.M. and 10 P.M. In All severe hazards are on table, damaging winds, large hail, isolated tornadoes. The Storm Prediction Center has the entire state under a Slight Risk, eastern Kentucky could see an upgrade to Enhanced Risk. Temperature-wise. Highs Wednesday reach the mid to upper 70s before the front crashes through. Then the bottom drops out. Wednesday night lows plunge into the mid 30s — a 40-degree nosedive. Some spots could even see a brief rain-snow mix before sunrise Thursday. Thursday brings sunshine but only 50 to 55 degrees, friday warms back to the low 60s. Saturday looks pleasant with highs in the mid 60s to low 70s, another storm system approaches Sunday with more rain possible. Looking ahead. Charge your phone and keep an eye on the sky Wednesday afternoon. ! See you this afternoon.
