Drawing exclusively from Whitney Webb’s One Nation Under Blackmail (Vol. 1), this episode explores how blackmail, intelligence operations, private banking networks, political fixers, and “respectable” institutions converged in the 1970s–1990s to form something far more durable than a crime ring: a system.

We discuss the evolution of the “favor bank”, how leverage replaced cash as the ultimate currency and how power adapts when exposed. When one front man falls, another steps in. When a bank collapses, the assets migrate. And when chaos looks random, it isn’t.

The thesis remains the same: blackmail isn’t the scandal. It’s the infrastructure.

Hemingway Daiquiri:

• 2 ounces light rum
• 1/2 ounce maraschino liqueur
• 1/2 ounce freshly squeezed grapefruit juice
• 3/4 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
• 1/4 ounce simple syrup
• Lime wheel, for garnish

Add the rum, maraschino liqueur, lime juice and grapefruit juice into a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled. Strain into a coupe glass. Garnish with lime.

Welcome to Season 4 – Episode 7!

In this episode, we examine the case of Jane Toppan, a woman often reduced to the label of “killer nurse,” but whose crimes reveal something far more disturbing. Toppan didn’t simply murder her patients - she manipulated them.

Charged with twelve murders and confessing to at least thirty-one, she exploited a system that trusted caregivers implicitly and rarely questioned deaths labeled as “natural.” Her case forces an uncomfortable conversation about access, authority, and how easily harm can hide behind a smile and a uniform.

This is a case study in pathology, power, and what happens when caregiving becomes compulsion.
