 Sultan I. Mustafa, 1592 yılında babası III. Mehmed'in Saruhan Sancak Beyi olarak bulunduğu Manisa'da doğdu. Annesi Handan Sultan'dır. Babasının 1595'te tahta geçmek için Manisa'dan ayrılmasının ardından diğer kardeşleriyle birlikte İstanbul'a götürüldü. İlk temel eğitimini sarayda aldı. I. Ahmed'in beklenmedik şekilde genç yaşta vefatı Mustafa'ya taht yolunu açtı... Allah Sultan I. Mustafa'ya ve nesline rahmet eylesin.
