 Michael Kyrath verlor am 25. Januar 2023 seine Tochter Ann-Marie bei einer Messerattacke durch einen abgelehnten Asylbewerber in einem Regionalzug nahe Brokstedt. Dabei starb auch Ann-Maries Freund Danny. Seitdem hat Kyrath immer wieder die Öffentlichkeit gesucht, trat etwa in Talkshows (u.a. Markus Lanz) auf und kritisierte die Untätigkeit von Politikern. Zuletzt war er in der ARD-Sendung "Klar: Migration - Was falsch läuft" zu sehen. Ich habe mit ihm u.a. über seine Tochter, den Tag ihrer Ermordung und die schreckliche Zeit danach gesprochen sowie über sein Mitwirken bei der ARD-Sendung und die Reaktionen darauf.
