    The baptism of the crowds in Luke 3 implied a public acknowledgement that they needed to repent of their sins to prepare for the coming of the Messiah. Jesus’s baptism meant something slightly different, a public declaration of his readiness to do His Father’s will along with an offer for the Father to use him. The Father’s public outburst in response affirmed Jesus’s readiness and committed God’s power to Jesus’s efforts to do His will.
