About this listen
While the pumpkins are still on your porch, it seems like a good time to think ahead about how to intentionally prepare our homes and hearts for the holiday season.
Introducing a new series called Home for the Holidays, Gretchen and Jennifer reflect on their childhood experiences of the season and how those memories have impacted their orchestration of traditions with their own families.
We also discuss the importance of asking questions and having conversations with our children and spouse to see what traditions, menu items, experiences (and even decorations) matter to them. Are we needlessly spending energy on certain things because we have wrongly assumed that everyone expected or valued them? There’s only one way to find out!
Cultivating an atmosphere of sacredness in our homes is a way to push back darkness and reclaim light and life for ourselves and all who enter, whether for spouse, child, or guest. And at the same time, we are invited into a divinely intimate communion with the Father, where the washing of each dish, the folding of another towel, the hundredth tidying of the living room… we offer ourselves in worship. And He sees.
