About this listen
In this episode, Research Associate at the University of Sheffield, Dr Henry Staples, takes us through the highlights and challenges of his academic and professional journey - starting from an interest in land economy, several months living in a favela in Rio de Janeiro, and a PhD on the trajectories of members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) guerilla group in the wake of Colombia’s 2016 peace agreement. He talks about his research topics and recent publications on community participation in peacebuilding in Colombia and reintegration of former combatants, his fieldwork experiences in Brazil and Colombia, and what responsibility means in the context of peace processes and in his own research. Henry shares advice for researchers, students and young professionals pursuing careers or interested in the fields of peacebuilding and conflict resolution.
