About this listen

Good morning. Hawaii. I'm Aaron Jolly. Trade winds are doing their thing today. Classic Hawaii weather — partly cloudy skies, scattered showers drifting through windward areas. Nothing dramatic, just those brief passing showers that favor the mountains overnight and into early morning. Oahu wakes up at 72 degrees, climbing to 81 by midday. Scattered showers through the afternoon, mostly cloudy conditions. East winds pick up, gusting to 20 miles an hour. Tonight drops back to 72 with showers tapering off before midnight. The Big Island starts cooler at 66 degrees, rising to 77 this afternoon. Scattered showers continue through the day and into tonight — about a coin flip on rain after dark. Southwest winds stay light around 6 to 8 miles an hour. Maui gets the sunniest deal today. Low of 67 degrees, high near 83. Mostly sunny skies with east northeast winds ramping up, gusting to 28 miles an hour by afternoon. Tonight stays partly cloudy around 67 degrees. The weekend stays pleasant. Mostly sunny skies Saturday and Sunday. Trade winds continue through Sunday night. But here's where things shift. Monday brings a major pattern change. Winds flip southerly as a powerful cutoff low approaches from the northwest. That system draws deep tropical moisture northward, setting up several days of unsettled weather. From Monday night into Tuesday, expect strong southerly winds, heavy rainfall. And thunderstorms. Some storms could produce damaging winds, lightning. And flash flooding. The threat spreads statewide Wednesday through Friday. High summits on Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa could see snow and ice above 12,000 feet. Prepare now for significant impacts next week. Multiple days of heavy rain, strong winds. And severe weather potential statewide. See you tomorrow. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast See you tomorrow.
