About this listen
HOW BLACK PEOPLE LOST THEIR MINDS discuss the beginnings of America when King James I and the Virginia Company of London's decision to establish a colony in North America. The motives for coming to America was the three Gs; Gold, God, and Glory in hopes of rising to power. Gold was the riches they thought they would obtain in the New World. In the rivalry of Islam and hatred of non-christian religions, they had wished to establish missionary traditions of Christianity to bolster their European politics. Glory was to ascend to the top of competition between the monarchies.
Though they came for the three Gs, the podcast discuss the pitfalls, hardships, and mistakes they made using headrights to institute indenture servitude. The gold they discovered was the profits in agriculture, specifically, tobacco, cotton, and rice. To overcome those problems they obtained land but the crops they chose to grow require massive amounts of labor. The labor of Indentured servitude and indigenous people were not enough to support the agriculture needs, so they looked elsewhere.
They began importing people and forced them to become forced, and unpaid workers. They establish legal blockades that prevented those workers from sharing in the agricultural profits. The forced and unpaid workers came from huge nations and city- states, that boasted advanced societies of science, art, medicine, mathematics, and civic administration as well as advance agriculture. Upon being forced to come to America, and working for no pay, the workers were relegated to farming tobacco, cotton, and rice. These products was the creation of international trade and these workers along with the landowners formed an unlikely partnership and were able to create the best economy the world has ever known - and the forced and unpaid workers received no benefit. While the landowner class created generational wealth...leaving his unlikely partner, the forced and unpaid worker, generational poverty.
The various episodes provide an organizational study of how they created the best economy in the world. It follows the money starting from obtaining headrights ( giving land for people), for each forced and unpaid worker, and the legal blockades put in place to stop the forced and unpaid worker from sharing in the profits. As well as how the money from profits was invested to create some of the largest financial, commercial, and mercantile institutions the world has ever known.
One has the wonder what America and the world would be like today had the unlikely partnership started as a likely partnership using the knowledge the forced and unpaid workers brought with them along with that of the partners. WOULD WE BE YEARS FURTHER IN ADVANCEMENT than where we are today?
