  • "Sign me t-shirt" - Last day of school (and series one!)
    Jul 6 2025

It’s the Series One Finale! In this nostalgic send-off, Jack and Kelly celebrate that unforgettable rite of passage: the last day of school. Think end-of-year discos, shirt-signing rituals, and that buzzing feeling of summer stretching out ahead.

But first, we welcome a special guest and proper mate of the pod — Beth — who was born in 2000 and missed the '90s completely. We quiz her on all things retro to find out if she really knows her tamagotchis from her Toploaders, and get her take on what it means to grow up just after the era we all still bang on about.

We wrap up with a few very special listener letters telling us what the pod has meant to them this series (spoiler: we got a bit emotional).

It’s been a mint first run — but don’t worry, we’ll be back in September for Series Two, where we’re diving deep into the pop culture phenomena of the ‘90s and ‘00s: from girl bands and gadgets to teen dramas and clubland CDs.

School’s out for summer — but Growing Up Up North is just getting started!

A huge thank you to all listeners of the pod - you have made the last 7 months amazing!

  • You goin' to the fair tonight? - Northern Village Fayres!
    Jun 29 2025

It’s our penultimate episode and we’re heading straight into nostalgic summer vibes as we chat all things Northern summer fayres!

This week, we take a trip down memory lane (and the A1) to Darrington, where Kelly shares what it’s like going back for her hometown’s annual Feast and Fair, Jack reminisces about Glossop’s Victorian Weekend and we also chat a bit about the magical of funfairs (and their lack of health and safety or animal welfare!).

It’s a slightly shorter ep this week, but hopefully still includes all the usual Northern charm and childhood memories. Make sure you’re following us on Instagram and TikTok for behind-the-scenes laughs, throwback pics and more!

  • Emo vs Chav
    Jun 22 2025

This week on Growing Up Up North, we’re diving into one of the most iconic teen rivalries of the 2000s: Emos vs Chavs. Whether you were skulking around in skinny jeans and eyeliner or strutting in a full Adidas tracksuit with a can of Relentless, we’re unpacking the culture clash that defined a generation.

From Myspace poses and angsty lyrics to sovereign rings and high-street fashion, we explore the music, fashion, and drama that split playgrounds in two. Expect nostalgia, laughter, and more than a few cringe memories.
