You have a role to play in your local church. The vision of the house is not just for the pastor or spiritual leader; when God calls a man or woman, He calls others alongside them to help fulfill that vision. Your participation in that assignment is part of your ministry of reconciliation.

It is easy to begin something; the real test is finishing it. Apostle Paul instructed Archippus, “Take heed to the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you may fulfill it” (Colossians 4:17). God is not only interested in our excitement at the start—He is interested in our endurance and consistency. Goosebumps fade, but faithfulness produces fruit.

Saints, serving those for whom Jesus died is not a burden; it is the highest honor of our lives. For this reason, we must never allow anything or anyone to talk us out of our responsibility to serve.

There is a prescribed way to serve God, and as believers, we must be conscious of this truth. For many, this may come as a surprise, because service has often been approached with the mindset of, “As long as I tried,” or “At least I did something.” But God is not impressed by effort alone—He is honored by obedience. Cain’s offering was rejected, not because he gave, but because he failed to follow God’s prescribed order (Genesis 4:5–7). Service that ignores God’s instruction is unacceptable, no matter how sincere it appears.

It is easy to become consumed with our own world and lose sight of the beautiful life we have in Christ. When we focus on who has wronged us or treated us unfairly, we can lose sight of why we are here. The challenges we face are only as big as we magnify them. But in every situation, we have a choice—to magnify our problems or to magnify our God. The truth is, problems naturally gravitate toward their solution. So when you encounter challenges, rejoice—it means you carry the answer. Hallelujah! Do not allow personal issues to distract you from your spiritual responsibility.

In our previous devotional, we discussed our obligation in the gospel. Serving God is not something we do out of convenience or spare time. It is a divine responsibility that must take priority in our lives. In serving God, we must adopt the mindset of faithful servants whose greatest desire is to see the will of the Master accomplished.

A growing mindset among believers today is what I call convenience Christianity—serving God only when it fits comfortably into one’s schedule. Kingdom service has become optional, something squeezed in after personal priorities are met. Child of God, it ought not to be so. God is not served with leftovers. Our lives should be arranged around His assignment, not the other way around.

Many believers genuinely desire to serve God but struggle with identifying their calling. This confusion has led to the popular idea that a person’s past struggles automatically define their ministry. While God can redeem any situation, He is not the author of our mistakes. Our message is not our past—our message is Christ (1 Corinthians 1:23).
