  • A Very Black Christmas (Shane Black Does XMas)
    Dec 8 2025

On this week’s episode, Nick and Bella return as your favorite unlikely duo. Which is apt, as we dive into the work of one of the most impactful screenwriters of the last forty years, Shane Black.

Over the decades, Shane Black’s action screenplays have thrilled audiences. And in most of his pictures, he loves injecting a bit of the holiday season. Thus, A Very Black Christmas.

    • We start with a game-changing classic. Mel Gibson and Danny Glover star in Lethal Weapon.
    • Second, we explore an underappreciated gem. Geena Davis and Samuel L. Jackson throw jokes and bullets in The Long Kiss Goodnight.
    • Finally, Shane Black makes his directorial debut in the film that helped revive Robert Downey, Jr.’s career in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

Sonja’s Movie Minute this week explores the directorial debut of Kristen Stewart, The Chronology of Water.

  • 50 Years of the Rocky Horror Picture Show & Rock Musicals
    Dec 1 2025

Nicholas Ybarra and returning guest Max Sopkin celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Rocky Horror Picture Show, the cult classic and the longest-running film in theatrical history.

Nick and Max talk about their personal connection and history with the film, and delve into a hilarious and informative recap of this film and two other cult-classic rock musicals.

    • We start, of course, with the reason we’re here, Tim Curry, Susan Surandon, and Barry Bostwick in The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
    • Second, we explore the lesser-known sequel (or equal?) to Rocky Horror, Richard O’Brien’s Shock Treatment.
    • Finally, one year before Rocky Horror, Brian DePalma had yet another box office bomb turned cult-classic in the brilliant Phantom of the Paradise.

Tell us about your experiences with The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Have you seen it? Do you love it? Have you been to a shadow cast?

  • 101 - Noir November
    Nov 24 2025

Before heading into the Holiday season, Noir November could not be ignored. For the first time, Nick & Bella celebrate Noir November with three unforgettable, game-changing classics.

    • We start with the Humphrey Bogart-led masterpiece and the catalyst for the Film Noir movement, 1941’s The Maltese Falcon.
    • Second, Billy Wilder’s bleak, twisted, and sultry classic Double Indemnity.
    • Finally, Alfred Hitchcock dipped his toes in the Noir lore with the wildly unnerving Strangers on a Train.

Nick and Bella also dive into the debate of whether Film Noir is a genre or a style.

Let us know what you think of these films, and let us know what your favorite Film Noir movie is.
