About this listen
For nearly 50 years, Gary Shapiro has been traveling to the island of Sumatra to work with the world's largest population of orangutans. He was first called there in 1978 to assist in teaching these majestic primates sign language. Eventually, his focus shifted to studying their social behavior and challenges regarding loss of habitat. Join us as Gary shares some fascinating stories of his work with Sumatra's orangutans!
